RUNWAY REDEVELOPMENT WORKS WILL RESTART FROM 15TH MARCH
From 15th March the runway redevelopment works will restart at Verona Airport. This is the second phase of the maintenance operation that was started last autumn.
Verona, 10th March 2011 – As previously planned, and if weather conditions allow, the rebuilding works will restart on 15th March and are expected to finish in May. This is the second phase of the entire rebuilding works for 12% of the runway, for a total of 16.200 sqm.
After the technical break in winter, when paving operations were not possible because of the low temperature, the Managing Company will continue the renovation works by dismantling 240 meters of concrete and rebuilding a new modern asphalt paving with almost double thickness compared to the previous pave.
In order not to hinder flying operations, the works will be carried out during the night when the airport is closed, while the runaway length will be shortened during the day. To avoid long range flights being diverted to other airports, as they need the whole runaway length to take off, Verona Airport will be ready to use Brescia Airport runway as an alternative. In case of necessity some flights could be rerouted to Montichiari and they will anyway operate within the Garda System Airports.
A key contribution in the works technical planning was given by ENAC, ENAV S.p.A. and by the locale Air Force 3rd Formation S.O., which the Managing Company wishes to thank for their cooperation. The redevelopment works have been accurately planned in order to get the shortest duration possible and the least impact on daily operations.
Nevertheless, some discomforts may occur from time to time, particularly during traffic peaks or in case of fog, but the airport is prepared to handle also these circumstances effectively.
