2007 has started as best as possible for Valerio Catullo ariport.
Along with the traffic growth, comes Catullo development program. The airport is always careful to guarantee a high level of assistance and efficiency to the increasing number of passengers. In Verona-Villafranca all the works to facilitate access to the terminals are going to be concluded. Meanwhile, the new Rent-a-car building is being finished: 14 offices, each for a different car rental company, will be opened in about two months in the 400 sqm area.
If in 2006 Catullo carried a record 3 million passengers, with a growth of almost 400.000 people against the end of 2005, for the new year again further good results are being achieved.
During the first two months of 2007, which are traditionally less busy months, Catullo flew 377.481 passengers: 11,4% higher then in the same period last year. This positive trend was strongly obtained thanks to the 28,7% increase in domestic line flights. The new Wind Jet low cost connections to Catania and Palermo were opened at the end of September last year and during the first two months of the new year have carried over 28.000 passengers. In the same period, also international line flights gained a good flyers increase with a rate of 16,3%. Main reasons for this results are represented by Ryanair route to Frankfurt-Hahn and Meridiana re-opened connections to eastern destinations, which had been previously suspended by Clubair.
While other new features are expected for the summer, the new routes launching programme has already started. On Saturday 3rd March Wind Jet opened its flight to Moscow which, operating twice a week, is gaining positive feedback in Russia as well. In addition to that, Wind Jet is going to open a new biweekly route to Saint Petersburg from 27th March, while Germanwings connection to Cologne/Bonn is going to operate again after the winter pause with four weekly departures (plus one additional departure during July and August).
From next April a new budget daily flight to Barcelona will be operated by Click air. Fares from 20 Euros all included are on sale at www.clickair.com.
In April again Irish airline Ryanair will also extend its departures from Catullo. Besides its first route to Frankfurt/Hahn inaugurated last October, the low cost airline is launching the connection to Brema on April 1st, thus offering a new mainly leisure destination from Verona.
The new works on the terminal building will allow easier and faster access to the airport, will create a larger shopping area and increase the number of check-in desks in the future.
A new roundabout along the entrance road way between departures and arrivals areas will facilitate traffic flows to and from the airport. Parking areas are being improved as well: the short-stop parking opposite the departures terminal is being expanded to enable easier loading and unloading of passengers. By Easter Holidays all works on access and parking areas are going to be finished.
