AIRPORT OF VERONA. RUNWAY REDEVELOPMENT WORKS WERE FINISHED AHEAD OF SCHEDULE
Verona, 16th May 2011 – The second phase of the rebuilding works for 12% of the runway was completed last Tuesday 10th May, some days earlier than planned. A surface of 16,200 sqm was rebuilt in 58 days. The new modern and extra thick asphalt paving will properly support taking-off and landing operations also for heavier aircrafts, in compliance with the industrial plan that was approved in 2011 by the shareholders assembly.
The project was made of two phases (the first one was started and completed last autumn, the second one has just been closed) and was carefully planned since the beginning in order to be completed before the summer and to affect airport operations as least as possible especially in high traffic periods/strong>.
Thanks to the technical contribution given by ENAC, as well as by the local Air Force 3rd Formation S.O and by ENAV S.p.A., the airport staff has worked hard and was able to finish the works earlier then 15th May as expected, despite some weather-related delays.
Works were successfully carried out during the night when the airport was closed, in order to create the least inconvenience to flying operations and passengers services during the day. All was well coordinated with the assistance of local Authorities and Airlines.
During these two months, 18 flights were rerouted to Brescia Montichiari, that was used as an alternative airport in order to keep traffic within the Garda Airports System. During these planned reroute operations, our operative staff has coordinated passengers transfer to Brescia Airport y means of a shuttle service. Passengers were previously informed online from the website aeroportoverona.it and by warnings given by Airlines, Tour Operators or Travel Agencies.
As Airport managing company reported, all activities were planned and carried out without any troubles for travelers, who on the contrary were registered in higher number in this period (over 20%) compared to previous years. This success resulted from a project and consequent achievement , that have been developed by a team made of ENAC, Air Force, ENAV, local Authorities, technical and operative staff of Catullo Spa and all companies involved in works planning and execution.
Thanks to the synergic commitment of all people involved in the project, we gained another tangible and important result for the growing development of Verona airport.
