AGREEMENT PROTOCOL SIGNED TODAY BY MERIDIANA FLY AND VERONA AIRPORT

COMUNICATO STAMPA

AGREEMENT PROTOCOL SIGNED TODAY BY MERIDIANA FLY AND VERONA AIRPORT

Verona, 6th October 2010 – Verona Airport President Fabio Bortolazzi and Meridiana Fly CEO Massimo Chieli signed today in Verona a new Agreement Protocol in order to develop the services offered by both airline and airport and to open new international connections.

Meridiana Fly chose the Airport of Verona to present its services to the public for the first time from its establishment, which was decided on 28th February 2010 between Meridiana and Eurofly. The Airline confirmed with this choice its strong interest in the local territory and wishes to strengthen its role and relationship with all main tourist, cultural and industrial partners of our area.

Meridiana Fly CEO Massimo Chieli stated “Meridiana Fly has today nearly 17% market share of Verona Airport, achieved a punctuality level of over 80% and a regularity level of 99%, that is one of the highest performance levels in Europe. We are a leading carrier for charter flights to the Indian Ocean and the Middle East and, thanks to the new agreement protocol that we signed today with President Bortolazzi, we are going to further develop Meridiana Fly services and connections, considering that in 2010 our airline served so much as 22 destinations from Verona.”

Chieli continued explaining that “Meridiana Fly wishes to work for clients based in the Verona area, but also attract new travellers that have not yet flown from/to Verona. So its aim is to grow together with the airport and to all those who have any interest for this extraordinary area of Italy. Today we announced the new service on route Verona-Rome. According to air transport market forecasts, domestic traffic is expected to slightly grow and we want to seize this opportunity, being confident that together with reliable and far-sighted partners like the Verona airport and all main local companies and protagonists there will be a bigger chance to create a new value for all of us”.

Fabio Bortolazzi, Verona Airport President, concluded “We have worked intensely in order to build up the Airline commitment to grow with us. Our catchment area is one of the largest on national level, so it is extremely appealing for a partner that is willing to expand. Companies in our area have a much higher exposure to foreign markets in comparison to the national average figures: in Verona nearly 82%, while the national average percentage is 49%. This international attitude should be supported also by the airport through agreements with partners believing in the development of new routes and consolidation of the existing destinations, just like Meridiana Fly. Our region is able to attract significant tourist flows thanks to our towns of artistic interest, the natural landscape of our Lake and the Dolomites. Just to mention some figures that are extremely important: Verona has registered nearly 3 million and 200 thousand incoming tourists per year, the Verona area around the lake recorded over 2 million and the Trentino region registered over 3,1 million incoming travelers last year. We also shouldn’t forget key international events such as the Arena Opera season and the many Exhibitions attracting millions of visitors every year. The partnership of Meridiana Fly and Verona Airport with the local area will be the crucial element for a successful project and a growth accelerator for all parts”
