easyJet and Verona Airport inaugurate the new Verona-London Gatwick route
Verona, 1 June 2011 – Starting from 3 June, the leading European low-cost airline easyJet will be running a new route with an Airbus A319 from Verona to London Gatwick. The flight will operate daily, with fares starting from € 33.99 each way, inclusive of taxes.
Verona brings to 15 the number of airports easyJet flies to in Italy, thus underlining the strategic important of the Italian market for the Company, the third largest in Italy and the fourth largest in Europe in terms of passenger numbers.
"This new London Gatwick flight is proving a great success, and we are sure that the collaboration with Verona Airport will continue to bear fruit," said Frances Ouseley, easyJet Manager for Italy since 31 May 2011. "We expect to carry around 37,000 passengers in the first 12 months of operation. London Gatwick is a convenient airport for both business and pleasure travellers, since it is just 30 minutes from the city centre".
"The performance of the Verona-London route is extraordinary," added Fabio Bortolazzi, Chairman of Verona Airport. "In April, for example, London registered an increase in traffic of 140%, thanks to a much wider and more varied offer in terms of frequency and prices, thus demonstrating how popular the destination is with travellers. The entry into Catullo Airport of easyJet, the leading air transport network in Europe, with the inauguration of the daily flight to London Gatwick, will be an important addition to the ample choice Verona offers both business travellers and tourists, in terms of times and prices."
